“Assignment” instead of actually paying the tuition fee!
Students do not need to actually pay the tuition fee in order to enrol for a university term. The solution: “Assignment”!
Important! Assignment is available only at the institutions indicated here.
In order to apply for a Student Loan, students need to prove their official status as students. In the case of fee-paying courses, most higher educational institutions had provided such proof only after the student had paid the required tuition fee, Rendering it impossible to fund the tuition fee directly from the Student Loan.
From the academic year 2008/2009 students studying at the higher education institutions who signed an agreement with the Student Loan Centre have been allowed to enrol without paying their tuition fee. Students are advised to request information about this opportunity at their Student Affairs Office.
Students can transfer a portion of their Student Loan, specified in a written agreement, directly to the account of their higher education institution. In such cases the institution grants official status to the students as if they had paid their tuition fee at the beginning of the term. This new procedure is called “assignment”. Assignment should be renewed every semester.
To renew the assignment, students have to do nothing more than fill in what is known as Assignment Form available at Student Loan Direct and submit it to the Student Affairs Office. It has to be done by 15 September each autumn or 15 February each spring.
As of the 2008/2009 academic year, the amount fee-paying students are allowed to request is growing by HUF 50,000 per month or HUF 250,000 per term. In the assignment process, the Student Loan Centre automatically transfers the amount in one instalment (on 14 October 2011 or on 14 March 2012). If the amount of the student loan previously requested does not fully cover the tuition fee, the request will be automatically put by the Student Loan Centre into the category in which the amount indicated in the Assignment Form can be granted. (Any amount left after assignment is, as usual, transferred by the Student Loan Centre to the student’s account.)
The assigned amount is disbursed to the higher education institution by the Student Loan Centre at the time of the first transfer (14 October 2011 or 14 March 2012). Assignment should be renewed on a termly basis.
Assignment is only available to students who applied for a Student Loan. Those who do not yet have an agreement can apply for one at any post office or bank branch. The Assignment Form should be printed out, completed, and sent to the Student Affairs Office only after the loan agreement has been signed.
During the assignment period, students are not allowed
- to cancel their Student Loan Contract,
- to request the suspension of the disbursement,
- to request the modification of monthly installments or
- to request a lower amount.
The assignment can be terminated only with the approval of the institution.
Note:
If it turns out that the student, despite his/her statement, is not eligible for the Student Loan, the institution is allowed to exercise its right established in the Act on Higher Education to terminate student status on the grounds of default.
Let’s take a look at how simple and efficient the assignment procedure is.
1. If you do not have a Student Loan, launch the application process at any of the loan application sites of our administrative partner network. (Please see the web page entitled Loan application.) For more information, check out the chapter entitled How you can get assignment? on the website.
2. Print the assignment form from the Neptun/ETR website or complete the electronic version on Student Loan Direct and then print it.
3. Complete the assignment form and submit it to the Student Affairs Office (by September 15 or February 15, respectively). The form is then checked by the student affairs administrator, who then signs it with you. The document is prepared in three copies, of which you keep one, another is sent to the higher education institution and the third goes to the Student Loan Centre. Instruction
4. If you request assignment as a new Student Loan applicant, the Student Loan Centre quickly checks the information and informs your institution of higher education whether you are eligible for a Student Loan or not. If you already have a Student Loan contract (you have already received a Student Loan) and your form is completed as required, we then transfer the assigned amount to the bank account of the institution with the first bank transfer of the semester (on March 14 and October 14). The bank transfer gets a unique code that we use when transferring the amount and when confirming the transfer.
5. If your loan amount for the semester is more than the assigned amount, we transfer the difference to your bank account when we make the assignment.
6. In October or March the institute credits the amount transferred by Student Loan Centre as the payment of the tuition fee. Until this time the institution grants enrolled student status.
Note:
If it turns out that the student, despite his/her statement, is not eligible for the Student Loan, the institution is allowed to exercise its right established in the Act on Higher Education to terminate student status on the grounds of default.
